Most people don't celebrate Halloween in Singapore. This year however, I decided to make an exception after spying these lovelies at Twelve Cupcakes.. eat your heart out and Happy Halloween everyone!

Candlenut kitchen
Baba king seems to have gone downhill when it comes to serving quality Peranakan cuisine. I'm really glad several new players (or rather old players reinvented) have resurfaced in the market.
One such example is candlenut kitchen, my current squeeze. Pictured here is a delectable spread of yeye chicken curry, chap chye, pork cheek with apple strips, ngoh hiang and a most lip smacking rendition of beef rendang.
I spied buah keluak ice cream in the dessert menu but was too stuffed by then. The sio bak ordered by neighbouring tables looked tempting too.
Can't wait to go back.

Ma maison
Ma maison seems to be stuck in a time warp. Since JC days till now, the ambience and menu have stayed largely unchanged. I don't have any fond memories of the food there despite patronising it several times over the years. However, today, my opinion seems to have changed.
Opted for the $16.50 set lunch which comprises mushroom soup (the thick hearty sort), a small baguette (perfect! Crusty on the outside and soft on the inside) salad, (ordinary) a hamburger steak (yummy!), potato salad, spaghetti (too salty) as well as a glass of home brewed ice lemon tea. Its not exactly cheap but still pretty good value overall.
Interiors are dim, cosy and 1950s american with a crooner singing in the background. Strangely it reminds me of christmas.
Will definitely be back again to try the ginger pork which my colleague swears by.
